Reiki Treatments
What is a Reiki Treatment?
A Reiki treatment takes place when the practitioner becomes a channel for Reiki energy and channels the energy from the Universal Source into the client. Other names for Reiki energy are “Chi”, “Prana” and “Life Source”.
Reiki Treatments can be divided up into four main headings:
In Person Treatments
Distant Treatments
Animal Treatments
Self Treatments
I will be dealing with each topic separately over the next few posts, but here is a brief overview.
In Person Treatments can be given anywhere, with the client seated or laying down. Treatments take place with the client fully clothed. The practitioner will either place their hands on or just above the clients body. The main advantage to the client laying down is one of comfort. The treatment normally makes them feel very relaxed and they often fall asleep during the course of it.
Distant Treatments can be take place at any time and do not need the recipient to be actively receiving for them to work.
Animal Treatments can be given to any type of animal and are very similar to In Person Treatments.
Self Treatments are methods whereby those who have completed their Reiki l qualification can treat themselves.
Western Reiki
Reiki was brought to the West by Mrs Takata after she received her training to Master level from Dr Hayashi, one of Mikao Usui’s former students, in Japan during a visit in 1938.
As a result of the political climate at the time of her return to the United States, Mrs Takata modified what she had been taught to make it more acceptable to her Western clients and pupils. Up until the early 1990’s most Western Practitioners and Teachers practiced and taught this modified version of Reiki.
Since then, there has been a revival of interest in traditional Reiki as taught by Mikao Usui, following the discovery of a small group of Usui’s original pupils living and practicing in Japan. Reiki Masters now teach a combination of Western and Traditional Reiki.
Mikao Usui
Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, was born in Japan on 15th August 1865. He entered a Tendai Buddhist monastery as a child and from the age of twelve trained in the art of Samurai swordsmanship.
He married and had two children and followed a number of professions including that of private secretary to Shimpei Goto. He travelled widely and studied extensively including traditional Chinese medicine, numerology, astrology, psychic and clairvoyant development, and Zen Buddhism.
The name Reiki was not used until after Usui’s death in 1926. He referred to his system as a “Method to achieve Personal Perfection” and his students referred to it as “Usui Do” or “Usui Teate” (Usui hand-application).
What is Reiki?
What is Reiki?
Reiki was originally taught by its founder, Mikao Usui, in Japan during the 1920’s as a spiritual path for those seeking enlightenment, and as a method of self-healing.
Today in the West, Reiki is primarily thought of as a form of complimentary medicine or spiritual healing.
